Imposing Apartheid Like Segregation in the Name of Development

Apartheid is defined as a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race according to the Oxford dictionary. Basically if a regime is protecting its own kind and attacks others over differences, that is a good sign of a racist segregation policy but for argument reason I will start by defining the racial line between the Oromo and other oppressed people and the northern Conquerors. Then I will try to reveal with concrete evidence the institutionalized and policy based segregation of Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) targeting specifically the Oromos. At the end I will try to explain how those sort of domination are unacceptable for any society who strive for justice, unity and co-existence among its members. Read more

It is the Responsibility of All Oromo Nationalist to Fulfill the Aims, Which Our Heroes and Heroines Died for!

We celebrate the Oromo martyrs day and the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) day to remember and commemorate the fallen heroes and heroines and to renew our commitment to all aspects of struggles for the liberation of the Oromo people and nation. These two historical days are the days that remind us to take courage in order to pay all the sacrifices required for the fulfillment of the farsighted objectives of our heroes and heroines.

Our heroes and heroines, such as Jarra Abba Gadaa, Mamo Mazamir, Elemo Qilxu, General Taddesse Birru, General Waaqoo Guutuu, Baro Tumsa, Rev. Gudina Tumsa, Sheykh Bakrii Saphalo, Magarsa Barii, Mulis Abba Gadaa, Sisay Ibssa, Adam Jiloo and many other had sacrificed their live for a single main objective. This objective is the freedom and liberation of their people and land. The Oromo heroes and heroines had been struggling in unity for the achievement of this single and main objective.

We, the current Oromo generation, have to realize that fulfilling this agenda of our martyrs is our most important responsibility. The most important message and example that our martyrs had left for us is to work and struggle for the strengthening of the unity of the Oromo people. Based on this fact, the Oromos are reminded of implementing and strengthening unity either in the liberation movement camps or in different Oromo political parties or wherever they are. This “Unity”, which is extensively written by our authors, used as a theme by our singers and been discussed every where by our people, should be considered as our main responsibility. Moreover, we need to understand that strengthening the unity and fighting for the fulfillment of the objectives of our martyrs is the call for freedom, the voice of the majority, the dream and will of the Oromo people and the voice of our martyrs.

Even though our martyrs are not with us, we hear their voice every day and this voice has a strong message to us today. This voice would say to us , “strengthen your effort and realize the aim we died for”. Moreover, it would say “we died for a single purpose, so don't let our aim on the air, if you do so you will be remembered in the wrong side of history”. Therefore, we need to understand our responsibility to realize and fulfill the aim our heroes and heroines died for.

Appeal statement from members of Union of Oromo Students in Germany (UOSG)

Since the end of 19th century Oromo and the majority of Ethiopian peoples have been victims of open and systematic genocide polices of successive Abyssinian ruling classes. Historical records have been indicating that the majority of peoples in Ethiopia have been living in environments characterized by unabated killings, repression, and oppressions orchestrated by successive tyrant and dictatorial regimes for more than a century. Groups or individuals who dare to raise the question of their identity are considered as the enemies of the empire and languish in the tyranny jail. As recently as last Sunday, when oromo's across the Ethiopian empire celebrated their thanksgiving (Irreechaa), several oromos became a victim of severe public beatings and arrest. They were intercepted while heading to the venue of celebration and their personal traditional attire and ornaments were confiscating. More than hundred have been wounded by severe beating, as many arrested in local prisons while about that many, fifty-five of whom are currently identified have been taken to the notorious Ma'akelawy (central) prison for the shocking torture the place is famous for according to VOA Affaan Oromo. The only reason for this inhuman repression and oppression is their determination to celebrate their tradition and culture and work to pass this tradition to the next generation.

The successive Abyssinian ruling classes military and political powers supremacy are basically rooted in technical, material, and financial aids of foreign countries in particular Europe during Scramble for Africa in 1880s. Since then the successive tyrants and regimes emerged in Ethiopia have shared common characteristics: i.e. “they have been misusing the aids in manipulation of governance instruments to silence people’s voices (for justice and peace) by rules of gun to realize marginalizing the Oromo and majority of Ethiopian peoples systematically from development of positive political, cultural, social, economic, and historical empowerment & integrity”.

None of the successive regimes emerged in today Ethiopia have been paid respects to the International Treaties they ratified and the constitution they adopted. They are deficient of moralistic attitudes to pay respect for basic principles and fundamental values of human rights and the rules of law. Today Tigray People Liberation Front/ Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front (TPLF/ EPRDF) regime’s human rights violation records are fresh indicators of successive tyrant rulers’ atrocious activities particularly towards the Oromo nation and generally towards the majority of Ethiopian people even in the post Melese zenawi era. It is an early indicator of the continuation of the dictatorial political system in Ethiopia.

Hence the government of "current Prime Minster" (the TPLF/ EPRDF regime) is neither inclusive nor participatory; neither representative nor accountable; and neither transparent nor responsive to the aspirations and expectations of the Oromo people in particular and the majority of the Ethiopian people in general. If basic action is not taken in a very few years the expected consequences will be heavy devastation for the stability and coexistence of innocent peoples of Ethiopia. The expense to avert the expected devastation may be more than the expense that routinely allocated in several forms of aids for the revival of the current regime.

Therefore, members of the UOSG appeal to the democratic governments and the international communities to support the struggle of the Oromo and the majority of Ethiopian peoples in order to realize people’s aspirations for justice, peace, freedom, democracy, stability and its quest for self determination through putting pressure on the "current Prime Minister" to immediatly halt its intimidation police towards oromo's and forcing the regime to come to all inclusive political solution for the oromo's and the entire empire.
